The Parents and Children Project has been a dream of mine since the late 1990s when I completed graduate school. Therapy is messy, and my goal is to make it as manageable as possible—sometimes with a little laughter along the way. Many clients have shared that my informal, collaborative, and humorous approach helps them achieve their psychotherapy goals in ways that feel rewarding. (Yes, I do show up in jeans sometimes.) Licensed in Virginia, I provide psychotherapy to those seeking support and solace on life’s unpredictable, perfectly imperfect path.
As real life happens to us all, or as I often say, “We all have moments in our lives when we are brought to our knees,” Wendell Berry’s words resonate with me:
“It may be when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and that when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey.”
While I work with a broad range of challenges, my lived experiences shape my professional commitments in specific areas. I am deeply passionate about advocating for families facing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and supporting students with special education needs. My children—two fantastically unique and quirky unicorn people in a world of horses—have been my greatest teachers in life, love, and neurodiversity.
Beyond my work, my superpowers include making music (not always quality music), flipping through books, and spending time with loved ones. I have a knack for connecting people, finding interesting VRBOs, and baking a mean apple pie. On the flip side, my kryptonite includes spelling, keeping up with technology, and the smell of mayonnaise.
(If it weren’t for Laura Kelloway, another psychotherapist on our team, I would still be wandering the tunnels beneath the Brattleboro Retreat—me, the pop machine, tables, chairs, and gift shop.
Laura and I met because she helped me find my way out into the sunlight… that is just part of who she is.)
