Chronic Illness

A chronic illness is a long-lasting health concern that may be present throughout a person’s entire life. When we refer to disability we mean a physical or mental health condition that limits a person’s movements, senses, or activities. Some people do not think of chronic illness as a disability.

While the link below is an article about chronic illness at the college level, it is an excellent piece that addresses this distinction. For more information, please click here:

Not all people with chronic illness will be people with disability or think of themselves as people with disability.

Managing chronic illness means our relationship with our body changes. Our relationship with greater society and the medical system changes as well.

We work with clients who live with the complexities of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Primary Immune Disorders, Parkinson’s Disease, Crohn’s Disease, chronic migraines, connective tissues disorders, assorted autoimmune disorders, as well as other rare diseases and conditions.

At The Parents and Children Project, we don’t know about all conditions. If we don’t know about whatever health situation you manage, we will take the time to learn more from your experts and other sources. We will also work with you to understand what your condition is like for you. We do not assume that people fit into tidy patterns of disease, symptoms, and ability.
